Malaysian Associated Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (MAICCI)

Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI)

Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM)

THE BACKGROUND

The origins of NCCIM is traced to 1962, where by virtue of a decision of the cabinet of the Government of the Federation of Malaya to establish a unified private sector organisation representing Malayan businesses in the domestic and international trade; 4 major chambers of commerce came together to form the United Chambers of Commerce of the Federation of Malaya.

The idea of UCCFM was mooted for a few years, and its realisation is accredited to the tireless efforts its promoters, the principal one being the Honourable Encik Mohamed Khir Bin Johari, Minister of Commerce and Industry.

The inaugural meeting was held on 10th July 1962 at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Kuala Lumpur; where Encik Mahmood bin Ambak, Associated Malay Chambers of Commerce, was elected as the First Chairman of UCCFM.

The inauguration ceremony of UCCFM was held on 31st August 1962, officiated by Honourable Encik Mohamed Khir Bin Johari, Minister of Commerce and Industry.

With the formation of Malaysia in 1963, the chamber’s name was changed on 29th July 1964 to United Chambers of Commerce of Malaysia (UCCM).

The coalition was restructured in 1974 to include the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) and renamed as the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM).
